Safety Methodology
Our risk classification system is designed for coeliac disease — not general gluten avoidance or fad diets.
Risk levels
- Safe — No gluten-containing ingredients detected; compliant with stated gluten-free claim where applicable.
- Warning — Ambiguous ingredients, cross-contamination risk, or "may contain" statements require verification.
- High Risk — Contains wheat, barley, rye, oats (unless GF certified), malt, or undisclosed gluten derivatives.
Classification pipeline
- Ingredient normalisation and synonym matching (Australian spelling variants).
- FSANZ Standard 1.2.7 rule evaluation.
- Knowledge engine risk classifier with confidence scoring.
- Clinical safety guardrails blocking forbidden certainty language.
- User-facing explanation with evidence citations where available.
Cross-contamination
Packaged food may be gluten-free by ingredients yet processed on shared lines. We flag "may contain" statements and advise coeliac-safe verification for sensitive individuals.
